Tehcnology Consulting – Where It is Headed

Enhancing a Gantt chart can help to use the same chart for a number of things in an even more efficient manner.

Countless small business owners as they grow try to keep up with technology trends and tend to their business in the same timeframe. Hiring an IT person is out of the question. It’s expensive, increases overheads, more hassle and less justification.

Many businesses are turning towards consulting firms that actually provide service when needed at a reasonable price. “There is this huge misconception that technology consulting is expensive. We spend a lot of time explaining to our potential clients that it’s a myth. Though once they try the service and experience the benefits – then they always come back for more” Says Hiren Mehta, a Senior Consultant at Onsite Chicago [http://www.onsitechicago.com]. Technology consulting could be as simple as hooking up a new printer to an employee’s computer to setting up an enterprise architecture that has a solid backup plan, with a network [http://www.onsitechicago.com/network.htm] that is secure and stable.

“One of the key requirements nowadays is to be able to deliver complete solutions to the customer,” says Anil Miglani, senior vice president of research group AMI-Partners in New York City. Many consulting firms provide full service solutions but only few are endorsed by clients and experts alike. Yes, the competition is heavy in this sector but the amazing part – most of our new clients come from the competition.

We get the same story over and over again and then it’s our job to regain their trust on Consulting – Says Hiren of Onsite Chicago. With the release of Windows Vista next year, we will see an additional growth trend. “The new Windows OS will create a new market as businesses upgrade and transition their existing applications,” says Miglani.

She also points to RFID consulting as an area set for growth. Consulting then is to provide top notch service and reasonable prices keeping in mind about growth and scalability. Gone are the days when you had to shell out millions for good technology consulting services.

Are You Sleeping Alone – Techie Issues Split the Bedsheets

Honey, did you turn off the computer? If that sounds like you, you might want to make sure you purchase a nice comfy couch, because you may be sleeping on it, according to comments on a Yahoo News Article recently. But there’s more to the story than just your computer… Are you a geek?

If you can’t turn out your lights until you read that last text from your coworker, you might want to rethink your priorities. Time off from work is just as important as ‘getting it all done.’

Many of us link our lack of sleep to snoring spouses, brittle nerves, and hostile mates, but the reality is technology may have more to do with your lack of sleep than any other single reason.

Do you text at midnight? Texting from the pillow while your spouse tells you about his or her day really isn’t the coolest way to communicate with someone you love (either on the cell or on the pillow).

Is your cell phone on vibrate by your pillow all night? If you’re connected at the eardrum to your cell phone, you may be ignoring your spouse. Have you considered shutting it off?

Time management may save your marriage? Leaving your job at work, taking time off to enjoy life, communicating with your husband or wife, without the cell phone, texting, or blueberry between you may help.

Cut the Technology Umbilical Chord and put your spouse in that first priority space. IT will wait. Spend a few tender moments, and you’ll be fresher in the morning so you can get more done.

Making time to enjoy life, not only gives you an extra edge on the fun part of living, but it will give you topics for discussion on the job, stories to tell, and something to talk about when technology fails. Remember the computer does go down now and then…

Eye Refractive Surgery – Laser Corrective Eye Surgery Procedures

Numerous technological advancements have since helped in making eye refractive surgery safer and more effective than it has ever been. Here are some of the novel technological advancements that are currently being used in eye refractive surgery:

MICROKERATOME VS. LASER

One of the major improvements in the procedure, specifically in laser eye surgery, has been the use of the femtosecond laser. The femtosecond laser is currently being used as a possible replacement of the microkeratome for use in the creation of a corneal flap. The femtosecond laser is used to shoot holes into the cornea at a preset depth. Compared to the microkeratome, the femtosecond laser is able to create the flap more accurately. Certain studies have shown that the use of the femtosecond laser has resulted in more predictable outcomes and decrease in visual aberrations, such as halos. On the downside, use of the femtosecond laser remains to be more difficult for the ophthalmologist and also more expensive. Visual acuity after the surgery using the femtosecond laser produces similar results as eye refractive surgery that uses microkeratome tehcnology.

TRACKING DEVICES

The use of tracking devices during has also made surgery significantly safer for the patient. Tracking devices are used to follow the movements of the eye during the operation. At present, 2 types of trackers are being used, namely laser radar tracking and video tracking. Although the use of these tracking technologies has significantly made the ophthalmologist’s job easier, they still have certain limitations. Video tracking of the pupil has a slight lag time, while laser radar tracking requires a specified amount of pupil dilatation for it to work. However, both kinds of trackers are currently being employed and have resulted in good results.

THE FUTURE

At present, a number of different lasers aside from the excimer laser are being tested in several studies approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The various lasers will first have to prove their efficacy and safety before they can be publicly used. When undergoing eye refractive surgery, it is important to make sure that the laser that will be used on you is FDA-approved or is part of an FDA-sanctioned clinical trial.

Although the procedure has improved significantly, it is not yet perfect. It is expected that improvements in science and technology will still be able to produce more predictable and successful results in the future.
